Galley Contest, Part Doo

I think I was trying to say "deux" in French, but doo is much funnier. To me, anyway. Since my last contest attempt was so lame, I'm making a sequel. And you're all invited! Once again, I am offering you, my loyal blog readers, a chance to win a galley (that's pre-published to you and me, Rusty) of my upcoming YA novel, Into the Wild Nerd Yonder. The story:

It's Jessie's sophomore year of high school. A self-professed "mathlete," she isn't sure where she belongs. Her two best friends have transformed themselves into punks and one of them is going after her longtime crush. Her beloved older brother will soon leave for college (and in the meantime has shaved off his mohawk and started dating...the prom Princess!)...

Things are changing fast. Jessie needs new friends. And her quest is a hilarious tour through high school clique-dom, with a surprising stop along the way--the Dungeons and Dragons crowd, who out-nerd everyone. Will hanging out with them make her a nerd, too? And could she really be crushing on a guy with too-short pants and too-white gym shoes?

If you go into the wild nerd yonder, can you ever come back?

If you'd like to be entered, make a comment about the new book cover, or the weather, or So You Think You Can Dance, or just stop by and say hello. Your name will be entered into a hat that I will draw from at the end of next week. The 12th. This book is for 13 years-old and up, btw. Good luck! May the best nerd win.

I'm just commenting to say how much I'm looking forward to this book. Any book about the D&D crowd has to be worth reading. :)

  5. As a high school nerd (I watched Star Trek and was a member of Science Club, drama club, and chorale!) I really want to read this book.

I need to watch SYTYCD-my mom and sister are addicted-but I always forget it's on! I really need a Tivo.

  7. I so want this book. I've been looking forward to your second book since finishing Get Well Soon! By the way, my roomie plans to read Get Well Soon at some point in the future (she's reading the very long Lies My Teacher Told Me right now, and doesn't want to read two at once.).

I actually didn't even know the book was coming out until I received a catalog in the mail from Feiwel and was browsing through it.

Question for you- Are you gonna watch Kathy Griffin's My Life on the D-List Season 5 premiere tonight?

  8. Hi Julie;

I used to be a D&D nerd—please don't repeat this to anyone. So, I can wait to see the exciting world you have created for Jessie! Cool cover!

  11. Wow! Look at all my comments. I'm thrilled! I don't have Lifetime, so I'm bummed about Runway. I have it at work and at my mom's, so I might have to take some field trips. I am SO watching Kathy tonight! And-- I can't wait for Top Chef Masters! That's going to be crazy!

    And yay for D&D nerds!!!

The book cover looks great! I wish I could say the same for the rapidly deteriorating weather in my area. What was a humid, sunny, windy day is shaping up to be another stormy night.

    Cheers!

  13. Ah, nerdom. Something I myself am completely familiar with. I read, I watch LOST, I have 104% in my French II class. I am a nerd. Not only am I a proclamied nerd, but I like to read books about other nerds. Imagine that.

Love the cover. The dice are a nice touch.

  14. Yeah, Betsy, I concur on the weather. What gives? I'm not minding the storms, but the cold and the gray... At least I'm still working so it's not SO bad. It better clear up by summer vacation. And Jenna- my husband drew the dice!

  21. I am trying very hard to think of a smart comment. But, alas, my brain cannot think of anything as there is only one more day of school and my brain is already in summer.

All my brin can think of is: The book looks spankin. :D

  22. Ohh I would LOVE to win this. I think the cover is super cute and I'm a complete geek, it's quite true, so I think I can relate to this one. You just keep writing books about people like me!! I read Get Well Soon (thanks for that copy by the way) like last year or something and I related to the main character in a few ways too. Quite exciting.

And slow me, I JUST realized you have a new book coming out, so I'm quite excited now. :)

    Hi Julie,
I was recently introduced to yours and Matthew's work.I have had a copy of "Toby and The Snowflakes" for some time now and just today by accident my husband found out that his boss at Fairway Ford, in Greenville is yall's father/father-in-law.I have been on both of yall's websites since I got home from school and both of your work is great.I'm a teacher here in SC and the kids I teach are in the age range that read your books.Anyways, sorry to just keep rambling, I just wanted to say that the new novel looks great and cant wait to read it and use it as a read aloud (a lot of my kids are below grade level in reading).Maybe next time both of you are in town you could come visit my school and talk to my kids about getting inspired to write. It would be very exciting for them to meet someone that writes and illustrate the books they read. I can't wait to go to Barnes and Noble in the morning and buy the rest of your's and Matthew's books. I am so excited to know someone that knows someone famous. Thanks. ~Sharon Gowan
